In this post we will try to find out how to install framework Laravel. For starting we have to make sure that our local system (if we build in localhost) or server supported to install Laravel as stated in Laravel official website.

  • PHP >= 5.6.4
  • OpenSSL PHP Extension
  • PDO PHP Extension
  • Mbstring PHP Extension
  • Tokenizer PHP Extension

For starting, we need composer to install. Composer is dependencies manager for PHP. With composer you can install library instantly and the other library automatically without download one by one. This feature like command apt get install in linux. After you installed composer, check for version to make sure that your installed it well using command composer -V

To know more about list library PHP we can use, see in And to know more how to use composer, I will tell you later.

Till here, we are ready to download Laravel. There are two methods to download Laravel.

via Laravel Installer

For this method, first you have to download Laravel Installer via command line. Use this command:

composer global require "laravel/installer"

After finish, make sure to place ~/.composer/vendor/bin directory (or equivalent directory of your OS) in your $PATH environment system. So laravel command can be executed. From here then if you are ready to create new blog/application web. To achieve that, you simply type command

 laravel new your-new-blog

via composer create-project

Download Laravel via composer did in command line, and before that we have to make sure where will we place the folder of Laravel. So I suggest you to move it into folder you can find easily, then use command

composer create-project laravel/laravel name-of-your-blog-laravel --prefer-dist

Wait until finish to download all dependencies for your blog.

From here, then we are ready to build blog/application web using laravel. And for next new blog we don’t have to download all dependencies, because those will drain your quota internet as well. So, we can achieve that using command

laravel new your-new-blog

With that command, all dependencies are loaded from cache. But before that make sure you are in right folder.

For next post we will talk about application structure in Laravel.
